Take your power back.
I first learned about CBT techniques in 2021 from a colleague when discussing one of my clients. It seemed so simple, yet so profound and effective. It wasn’t until 2022 that I decided to dive deeper down the rabbit hole after being diagnosed peri-menopausal. If you know, you know….this can be a challenging transition at times. So, I did what I do best and learned more about solutions for the drastic mood swings.
A very close friend whom I often refer to as my ‘guru’ reminds me nearly every time we spend time together I don’t have to clean my trash before throwing it away.
While that would be amazing to be able to just quickly dump thoughts that don’t serve us, not all of us can do it easily at first. This is where Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) comes in. It is a type of psychotherapeutic treatment that helps people learn how to identify and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on behavior and emotions.
- feeling stuck
- overcome with procrastination
- out of control (spending, consuming, emotions)
- self-sabotaging
- overcome with fear
- unable to make hard decision
- tame the inner critic
- negative or destructive thinking
- anxiety due to controlling thoughts
- and more…
Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on changing the automatic negative thoughts that can contribute to and worsen emotional difficulties, depression, and anxiety. These spontaneous negative thoughts have a detrimental influence on mood, thus behaviors. Through CBT, these thoughts are identified, challenged, and replaced with more objective, realistic thoughts.
The only thing we truly have the power to change is our thoughts and our reactions to our environment. CBT techniques will help you feel empowered in day-to-day life.
