I love to write.

Journaling, online or on paper, has always been a great way for me to process and share. It’s also one of the best ways to get to know me and all the experiences that create this life journey of mine.

Routine Human Maintenance

Routine Human Maintenance

According to this article, poorly maintained vehicles cause thousands of wrecks each year. The bill for accidents resulting from unperformed vehicle maintenance tops $2 billion a year. Even if you’re lucky enough to avoid a crash, putting off maintenance is likely to reduce your car’s life span roughly 50,000 miles. Okay, clearly I’m not here to discuss my auto maintenance schedule. This analogy seems to paint the best picture of the necessity of self-care. In order to keep my human machine at optimal performance, I began to do...

You can always do more than you think.

Good morning! I realize it’s been a while since my last post. A lot has happened and I admittedly got thrown off course a bit. Believe it or not, I’ve had my next article drafted and ready for nearly two weeks, but while waiting for the opportunity to snap the perfect header image photo, I became sick with a sinus infection and laryngitis which is ironic for the topic of the drafted article – self care. I’ll get it posted next, but for now I feel like this one is more appropriate for what’s going on today. On May...

Eat right AND exercise, they say

Recently, well….since turning 40, I’ve changed some of my priorities around and stopped taking my body for granted. Being an LMT, I already have a deep sense of awe for the human machine. The more I’ve been exercising, the more amazed at the accuracy of the statement, “you can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself”. On the average, I provide roughly 20-24 hours of massage each week. Had I not begun exercising regularly and adding strength training to my routine, I would not be able...

How I got started with keto and what now?

Before I dive into this, I’m gonna make a strong recommendation that you seek physician’s approval, talk with a nutritionist and/or do a lot of research on the interwebs before you jump on the keto train. Not all bodies are made just alike. In fact, it’s quite timely that I’m beginning to discuss this because just last Friday, I began to notice significant hair loss. I’ve had a friend go through this as well, but hers began roughly three months in rather than nearly six. There are a lot of reasons this can happen...

My Transformation Journey

My Transformation Journey

Inspired by a random text message exchange with a friend yesterday who lives in Portland, I decided to force myself to sit down and start this. I told her I was wanting to start blogging about my journey and she said she’d like to read it. Sometimes this whole storytelling thing is easier when I feel like I’m speaking to one person rather than the masses. LOL! Thanks, Em! Occasionally my over analytical mind and borderline OCD/perfectionist tendencies keep me from doing things I ultimately know in my gut that I want to do and am...

Advancing my skills

Well, it’s official! Saturday morning, I’ll be flying out of Springfield to participate in the LMT Success Group’s Seminars at Sea program, departing Fort Lauderdale on the Allure of the Seas ship on Sunday. I’ll be out of the country from 10/15-10/22 with limited communication. While on board the ship, I’ll complete nearly 40 hours of continuing education. I’ve selected classes that not only best suit my existing clients’ needs and one that has always piqued my interest – Thai Yoga Massage. My...

Get the most out of your massage session

Having been officially back in practice for over a year now, I’ve been reminded there are still many people out there who have a) still never received a massage in their life and b) may receive massage, but still aren’t getting the most out of their sessions. So, I’ve felt compelled to jot down a few pointers for new clients and those who would like additional guidance on the subject. According to the APA, stress is up. Most American’s are suffering from moderate to high stress. In fact, 49 percent of survey...

Share the Love

Share the Love

Valentines Day. It’s easy for those of us who may be in longtime or newly formed relationships to get excited about a holiday that provides an excuse to show and tell our partners, friends or family how much we love them. This year, nearly two decades into my own marriage, it’s even more clear that this is something that needs to be done weekly, if not daily. What is love anyway? What does it mean to be IN love with someone? These questions are very intriguing to me and led to some internal dialogue and searching this morning. A...

People and Plants

Here I sit, in the living room with candles lit and Native American Flute music playing in my earbuds, capturing a really interesting moment. Today (and this weekend), I’ve overcome fear, vulnerability, insecurity and guilt. There are probably others, but I’d rather shift the focus of my thoughts. Tomorrow, I will begin a part time schedule at my job at the food bank, focusing on the garden program. Moving from full to part time is enabling me to invest more time and energy in other things that are important to me. One of those...
